    Question

    Outrageous Job Requirements

    By Kate Lorenz, CareerBuilder.com Editor

Do you have a super-sensitive sense of smell? What about an ability to do backflips? Can you sit for hours and hours and not feel one bit restless? How'd you like to be paid for something you thought might be a conversation piece at cocktail parties?

If you have an special talent, there's a chance you can put it to good use and make money doing it. Here are some jobs with interesting, unusual and downright wacky requirements:

    Read the Fine Print
Jennifer Butsch from the American Staffing Association recalls a member who had to conduct a search for a receptionist. Sounds straightforward enough, but it turned out the position also called for the candidate to don a pelican outfit and pass out flyers. If you're too 'chicken' to be a mascot, then make sure you have a clear understanding of what a particular job entails before you accept.

If You're a Performer at Heart
You may be perfectly comfortable performing in front of thousands of people. If so, then should sign up for the Detroit Tigers Energy Squad, a "fun and energetic promotions, entertainment and fan activation team," according to their Web site. Applicants should be confident performers and well-versed in improvisational and interpersonal skills. But you must have physical stamina to perform during the entire game (up to four hours) and be willing to work in all types of weather.

    Go Along for the Ride
Linda Haneborg at Express Personnel remembers one client in California who needed to hire someone as a 'Permanent Passenger' to ride along in the delivery truck so the driver could use the express carpooling lanes. If you're dream job is taking an endless roadtrip, you may want to investigate this option.

    Consider the 'Hole' Job
How about a job sitting in a folding chair and watching an open manhole? Another of Haneborg's clients was looking for a sewer sentry whose job was to make sure either no one fell in and hurt themselves or climbed in to steal workers' tools.

    Ambassador to a Magical Kingdom
Would you like to be the "Face of Disney"? Then be sure to apply to be a Walt Disney World Ambassador. As Ambassador, you will represent the resort's nearly 60,000 cast members at more than 1,000 events, such as ceremonies, grand openings, special promotions and media interviews, as well as host dignitaries and other VIPs at Walt Disney World Resort. The selection process involves a series of interviews with fellow cast members and executives in which candidates have the opportunity to demonstrate their passion for and knowledge of all things Disney.

Celebrity Perks without the Irksome Paparazzi
Assistants -- all celebrities and high-powered executives have them. Someone to walk their dogs, fetch them things and perform any mundane chore the famous can't be bothered with. David Black with Express Personnel recruits for just such a position with a high-profile business mogul. He said while the pay is not great, the opportunity to connect with such an elite echelon of people and possibly secure a future, professional position within the organization is truly priceless.

Get Your Temporary Fix of Wackiness
Look to seasonal work to bring out your ghoulish side on Halloween, your jolly side at Christmas, your sweet side on Valentine's Day and your springy side on Easter. Most malls and theme parks like Six Flags hire part-time characters to brighten each season and holiday. This brief escape might be all you need to rid yourself of paper-pusher doldrums.

I can just see myself now, sitting by a man hole with a glass of hot chocolate. No one tell Mark or he will have me out there =) hehe
